I have had so much memories in Waimea. For those of you that don't know Waimea is on the Big island in Hawaii, it is also where my Grand parents house is. This place is special to me from when I was about four years of age. I used to go to the big island almost twice or more every year, and when I did I would always stay at my grand parents house with my cousin Justin, and my Auntie Bre.
My grand parents own about 2 and a half acres of land up in Waimea. Almost half of it is this forest, My grandpa built a tree-house on one of the trees closest to the house, thats where I had most of my memories. I remember when Me and Justin used to pretend that we used to be warriors and run around the forest. When you enter the forest it has that weird aroma of pine trees and rotting wood, with a trace of the Kona morning air.
The clatter of metal hitting pots fill the air as Justin and I run through the forest playing knights and castles, I ran deeper and deeper into the forest, justin followed behind. We ran to parts of the forest that we had never seen before, then we came to this mysterious black figure ( no joke, even ask Justin!) it had a dog with it! Justin and I just ran as fast we could out of the forest and into our Grandma's kitchen and were screaming at grandma trying to explain what we saw. The rest is for you to find out.

My special place
There is a few places I have in mind for my special place, one is my grand parent's house in Waimea on the Big island, I like this place because my grandpa built a tree house in the small forest they own, from when I was young I used to hang out in there with my cousin justin, we used to pretend that we were warriors and we used to make like the tree house was a castle. I actually think that I am going to use this place as my special place because I know enough about this place to get into detail about it.

Rough draft
Woosh! A blast of heat hits your face with the smell of garlic and shoyu boiling in a pot. Thats what used to happen to me when I came home from practice. I would always check to see what mom was making for dinner when I walked in the door. Every time I smelt the mixture of garlic and shoyu, a grin would just come across my face because I knew what was cooking up in our kitchen. My mom knows what that i would "scarf" down her shoyu chicken , thats why she likes to make it on special occasions only because it just makes the special occasions all the more special.
The best part about it was that every night she did make it I was always in happy mood, I knew that I would enjoy dinner. I used to especially enjoy it when she would make it when w would have our little dinners on the beach, its like the saltiness of the water would compliment the light saltiness of the chicken. I mean it had that fall off the bone feeling when you bite into it. My mom said that the time she remembers making it was our first team dinner, she said "This was the moment that I realized that my son is actually in high school.".
She would throw the chicken into a pot of boiling shoyu garlic. It would then simmer for about a half an hour, then she would boil some corn with butter and water. She then sprinkle a dash of salt and Pepper on the boiling chicken. Then you "dig" in!

journal #5
last night I interviewed my mom for our roots and recipes project for English. These are the questions I asked my mom:
Q: where did you learn this recipe?
A: My mom said that she made it up by trial and error.
Q: When was the most memorable time you made this dish?
A: She remembers making this dish the night of our first team dinner because she said "this was the moment that I realized that my son was in high school."
Q: How do you make it?
A: She seasons the chicken, then she throws it in the pot and lets it boil.
Q: what ingredients do you put in it?
A: She puts shoyu sugar which is a mixture shoyu and sugar, sake which is a Japanese alcoholic beverage, and shredded garlic, boneless chicken breasts, and water.
